Gifts from Mother Kaw – and exhibit of found tresures

Join Compass Point home of Dirty Girl Adventures for a special art exhibition of found objects and art inspired by our very own river home, the Kansas River.
The Kansas River is named for the Kansa or Kaw people who lived in the area, and the river begins at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers, and flows east about 148 miles into the Missouri River. The Dirty Girls have explored many sections of the river from their kayaks, and are always inspired by the beauty of the Kaw.
A favorite activity of the Dirty Girls is searching for treasures on sandbars in the river. The sandbars change from year to year, and the river unearths treasures from the past. You might find old bottles of interesting shapes, with unique labels in the glass; river glass broken and worn over time; pieces of ceramics; bones; beautiful rocks and interesting driftwood. Every treasure is different and its story can only be imagined.
The river also inspires Dirty Girls to create and capture the beauty of the river. Poetry, photography, driftwood creations and paintings have been born on the river. Many a Dirty Girl has an old bottle collection sparkling on her windowsill. Be sure to come visit Compass Point during September to see this unique art installation, “Gifts from Mother Kaw”.
Exhibit will be available from September 9th through October 1st, during Compass Point open hours; Thursday and Friday 5-8pm and Saturdays 11-4pm.
