Unity Walk and Juneteenth Flag Raising

June 3@11:30am-2:30pm

Topeka Family and Friends Juneteenth Committee, Inc. will recognize Juneteenth with ceremonial flag-raising and unity walk.
The Topeka Family and Friends Juneteenth Committee, Inc. is set to commemorate Juneteenth with a special ceremony featuring a flag-raising and unity walk. This event will take place outdoors on the Southside steps of the Kansas State Capitol grounds on June 3, 2024, starting at 11:30 am. The ceremony will be attended by members of the TFFJC staff alongside invited guests, and the general public is warmly encouraged to join in this momentous occasion.
This ceremony holds particular significance as Kansas officially celebrates Juneteenth as a State Holiday for the first time. Juneteenth is an important holiday observed every June 19th to honor the end of slavery in the United States. The flag-raising ceremony symbolizes a shared commitment to recognizing the historical importance of this day and celebrating the progress achieved in our ongoing journey toward equality and unity. It promises to be a meaningful event bringing together community members and stakeholders to honor this significant milestone in our state’s history.
